A. - You are eligible for military fares if you are traveling with your son or daughter or listed on their travel orders ON THE SAME RESERVATON. If military parents are traveling separately then you are NOT entitled to the Military Discount unfortunately. You may also purchase tickets for your military son or daughter with your credit card by logging into your active duty child’s account (you will need to ask them for their username and password) and then proceed to booking a trip through our military fares booking engine. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email us at support@militarytogo.com or call us at 800-859-6133

Q. - Does my Military ID serve as a Passport?
A. - No, you should get a passport for your home country and required visas for the countries you are travelling to.

Q. - Who qualifies for a military fare?
A. – Simply, any member of the US military armed forces who is on active duty qualifies for a discounted fare on many airlines. This includes members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard. For complete eligibility rules, please visit our Eligibility Page.

Q. - What is a military discount and are they always available?
A. - Military fares are offered by the airlines to active duty, active reserve, National Guard and dependents. Airlines offer military fares, which are set-aside for most flights. These fares are often discounted up to 65% and are for leisure travel. These fares can range from 20% - 50% depending on the flight. There are times, in which certain flights will not carry a military discount and/or limit the number of seats available. In this case, MilitaryToGo will continue to search for the next lowest fare. In addition, by purchasing a military fare ticket, airlines will oftentimes waive checked bag fees, cancel fees and change fees. There are limited military seats available on each flight so we suggest that you purchase your ticket sooner than later.

Q. - Does my family qualify for the military fare?
A. - Yes. Any dependent (spouse or child) can take advantage of discounted military fares. Just make sure they present their valid dependent id upon arrival at the airport. If your child is between 2 and 11 years old, a military dependent of at least 10 yrs old must present a tan uniform services dependent identification and privilege card marked active. If the child is 12 or older they simply have to present valid documentation that they are indeed your dependent. One other helpful hint is that if a military dependent’s surname is different, evidence must be submitted to the satisfaction of the carrier concerning dependency status.

Q. – I am a spouse of an active military person, can I join MilitaryToGo to get the discounts?
A. – Yes. In fact when you signup, we ask whether it is the actual active military person or their spouse. We know that while your loved one is away you may have to do a lot of the travel arranging. We invite you to join and receive the same benefits as your active military spouse does. We know military families and we are here to make travelling easier and less expensive, regardless if it is the active duty person or their spouse, you are all family to us.

Q. - Can my dependent fly without the active duty member?
A. - Yes. Just make sure they have their dependent id or proof of their sponsor's military status (i.e. orders, copy of their id, tan uniform services dependent identification and privilege card marked active, etc.)

Q. – What if I booked twice by mistake?
A. – Our system will see this and we will cancel one of the bookings, as well as release the second authorization on your credit card if necessary.

Q. – Can I print a receipt for my ticket?
A. – Yes. Simply Log In to your account and access My Trips. Once you do, you will be able to print a receipt, as well as check the status of your flights.

Q. – How can I check the status of a flight?
A. – When you Log In to your account (the Log In link is at the top right hand corner of our website) and access My Trips, you will be able to check the status of your flight. Of course you should always check with the airline you are flying to ensure that flights are not cancelled due to inclement weather or other delays.

Q. – I made a mistake when I booked my ticket, how can I correct this?
A. – Don’t worry. If you caught your mistake within 24 hours of making the reservation, we can cancel your booking before the final ticket id issued. Unfortunately, if it has been more than 24 hours, we cannot issue you a refund. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us the 1-800-859-6133 and one of our agents will be happy to assist you in clearing up the matter.

Q. – What if I need to cancel my flight?
A. – In order to avoid paying for a flight you cannot use, you should always consider purchasing trip insurance. This is a low cost insurance policy that will pay you back for a cancelled trip due to circumstances beyond your control. Unfortunately, if you did not purchase trip insurance with your booking and need to cancel your flight after it has been booked, you will need to call us at 1-800-859-6133 and we can try to assist you in any way we can. You may also try calling the airline and plead your case and in some instances because of your military status they may decide to either refund your ticket or issue you a travel voucher good for future travel. This is entirely up to the airlines.

Q.- Can I check in online?
A. – Yes. Simply to go through the airline’s website, you will need to make sure you have your Airline Confirmation Number (which is easily found in the My Trips area when you log in. You will need this number to confirm your reservation and check in online.

Q. - Are there other sites that offer military discounts?
A. - There are many sites that CLAIM to offer military discounts, but all other sites claiming to offer military fare discounts only offer what is available to the general public. MilitaryToGo.com is the only site that offers fares that are not available to the general public. MilitaryToGo is a full service travel agency dedicated to just military discounted airfares. Our systems and agents have travel agent access to ALL fares, published and unpublished. If after searching our online military airfare discounts booking engine you don’t find what you are looking for, please call us at 1-800-859-6133 or use our online chat with an agent toll and we will work our hardest to get you where you want to go for less.

Q. - How can I make changes to my ticket?
A. - If you need to cancel exchange or make changes to your ticket you can call us at 1-800-859-6133 or email us at support@MilitaryToGo.com for assistance. Most airlines charge up to $250 to make changes to a ticket. Our customer service must comply with this charge and will have little power to waive it. However, we have found that military members have better luck if they call the airlines directly when it comes to getting these fees waived.

Q. - Can I call the airline directly and receive the same military fare?
A. - Yes, but MilitaryToGo.com has found that the airlines traditionally will not quote the military fares. The airline agent must conduct a special search for the fare, which often doesn't happen because they do not receive special training on how to conduct these searches. Further, they will normally only quote limited departure/arrival options. Most charge a service fee for booking as well! MilitaryToGo is a dedicated full service travel agency for military personnel. We can get you the best fares on the flights you want because that’s all we do. Our proprietary database of discounted military fares covers all domestic and international flights and airlines, which a regular travel agent wouldn’t have access to.

Q. - Do I need to verify my military status before buying my ticket?
A. - No. The airline will ask for your military identification once you arrive at the airport. If you don't have your ID, a set of orders will also work with a valid driver's license.

Q. - Why is there a $25.00 service fee for each ticket?
A. – MilitaryToGo utilizes a specialized booking system that specifically searches for discounted military fares. Each time we book a ticket through this system there is a fixed cost that we incur. In most cases your military savings is far more than mandatory service fee. As always, we encourage all travelers to check other fares before purchasing your ticket to ensure you are getting the best rate.

Q. – I would like to book with Southwest Airlines, but I do not see them listed as one of the airlines that gives a discount to active military members?
A. – Southwest does give military airfare discounts, but unfortunately they do not participate in the online booking program. If you want to check Southwest fares, you can call us at 1-800-859-6133 and one of our military fare agents will be happy to get you their fare information for active military personnel and book your flight for you.

Q. - Do airlines charge service fees?
A. - Yes, depending on the type of service that is provided *(This may include reservations made by phone, seat selection, leg room, exit row, preferred seating, baggage fees etc.) Some fees are cheaper than our $25 booking fee; however, the overall fare can be (and oftentimes is) more expensive than what our specialized booking engine can find you. Below are links to popular US airlines baggage policies on their website:
Baggage Policy, Service Fees: Air Tran Airways: Alaska Airlines: American Airlines: Delta Air Lines: Frontier Airlines: JetBlue Airways: SouthwestAirlines: United Airlines: U.S. Airways:

Q. - Why do other on-line sites charge a smaller service fee for airline reservations?
A. – In many cases, you will not be able to access unpublished military discounts from a carrier’s website. Only our proprietary military fares discount engine can search across all domestic and international carriers and deliver a long list of choices all showing you the best discounts available. While they may charge a service fee that is slightly less, the discount you receive through MilitaryToGo often offsets the difference. In the online travel game, most online sites such as Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity make their money on hotel reservations and not airfare, this is why they are always trying to get you to book a room with your flight. The large travel aggregator sites normally purchase large blocks of hotel rooms and sell them back to the consumer at a steep mark-up to make their profit. For example: A hotel room that is listed on Hotels.com at $100 per night, and they discount it to $75 per night on the website actually cost them $45 per night because of the volume of rooms they purchased up front. Their profit on this room would be $30 per night. At MilitaryToGo, we are straightforward about our fees and work hard to get you the lowest military discounts available.
